King Contender 007 is leading the way in USA Brangus genetics. Breeders are impressed with his tremendous frame, height and structural correctness. These qualities were recognised at the 1985 Brangus National Show of Merit when 007 stood ahead of his contemporaries. He also took the title of Grand Champion at the Tulsa State Fair in Oklahoma.
Contender's sire was DMA King, who won the International Show at Houston in 1982, also the Futurity at Kerrville and the National Show of Merit. He was the first bull to win all three of these prestigious shows which go to make up the Triple Crown of Brangus in the USA.
Riley's Gem, Contender's dam, is one of the top 6 females of the breed. She is also the dam of Captain Nemo, one of the breed's top herd sires. Her offspring have done exceedingly well in both the show ring and in breeding programs throughout the USA.
Contender 007 is a performance bull. His growth, conversion and efficiency and fertility are impressive. Here is the type of bull that will produce easy calvers that grow well and carry the meat to produce profitable herds. 007 should pass on strong maternal influences. His dam has been bred to several different bulls and the progeny of these matings have resulted in offspring with impressive performance figures. 007 has produced a high volume of excellent quality semen.
As testimony to Contender's outstanding qualities, one half interest in 007 sold in November 1985, for USD $210,000. His sire DMA King set breed history when in August 1983 1/6 interest sold for USD $431,000 during the Granada Gala. His calculated worth by auction is more than $2.5million.
