The Bimbadeen Angus & Brangus Success Story
Bimbadeen Angus & Brangus Stud is on Phillip Island, Victoria, Australia, one and a half hours drive south east of Melbourne. Bimbadeen is situated between the Grand Prix Motor Racing Circuit and the internationally renowned Penguin Parade on the Back Beach Tourist Road.

Bimbadeen (Aboriginal for place of good view) has been breeding, with the use of Embryo Transfer and Artificial Insemination, a superior genetic, fully performance tested quality Brangus herd over the last 50 years and in recent times a quality Angus herd.
Bob and Anne Davie have run Bimbadeen with a commitment to responsibly managing their land and improving the biodiversity. Bimbadeen is an excellent example of combining productivity and conservation. The Davie’s commitment to the environment was recently recognised with the 2005 State Landcare Primary Producer Award.
Looking after the land and wildlife
The Davies have planted over 26,000 indigenous grasses, shrubs and trees as well as protected all
existing remnant vegetation on their property. Bimbadeen is an accredited ‘Land for Wildlife’
property. Birdlife flock to the wetlands they have protected on the historic McHaffie property.
Land Management Challenges
Salinity is a common problem on the island and the Davie’s have played a leading role in conducting research over many years to try and find the best ways to manage this risk. Solutions so far have included planting native trees and shrubs, trialing salt-tolerant pasture varieties and pumping groundwater to remove saline ground water from plant roots.
Climate change is also a big issue identified by the Davies. They have been exploring how they can reduce greenhouse gas emission by participating in the national Greenhouse gas challenge. The Davie’s are always keen to share their knowledge and experience and have regular visits from farmer and Landcare groups and both tertiary and secondary school students and teachers.
Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) has had 3 teams of students at Bimbadeen during 2015/2016. They are continuing Research on Biosolids , Salinity, Carbon and Ground Water flow. We believe that the experiment of Biosolids application on saline land will improve the soil structure. This trial is a 1st in Victoria conducted by RMIT with Professor Barry Meehan and Honours student Peter Matthews in co-operation with Westernport Water and Transpacific Industries.
Bimbadeen would like to acknowledge the tremendous support of all concerned in the the interest of Science and our Environment.
Bimbadeen Brangus has sold bulls and breeder females to two of Australia' s leading pastoral companies National Mutual Rural Enterprises and The Australian Agricultural Co. Contracts have been negotiated with China, Indonesia and Vietnam with regard to Bimbadeen Brangus genetics.
